Kohaku will have 10 or so new faces performing this year.
水谷豐（56）、Mr.Children、羞恥心、青山テルマ（２１）、ジェロ（27), etc. are among these new faces that will appear at Kohaku this year.
This news was released on the 24th, and will be officially announced on the 25th.
Before the official announcement on the 25th, the 10 + new groups have already been confirmed. Mr. Children will not be in the NHK lobby, but instead at another venue, and the performance will be broadcasted. New faces include 青山テルマ、GIRL NEXT DOOR、Perfume、いきものがかり, etc. African American singer ジェロ and Korean boyband 東方神起, and キマグレン have also been confirmed.
The artist list is officially announced on the 25th, and there are always many artists who make their first appearance on NHK’s ceremony, but Mr. Children and 水谷豐 will only be performing through video this time. Compared to last year’s 8 new faces, this year’s 10 new faces are going to be much to see.

DBSK to hail 2009 from Tokyo

With minimal activities in Japan while they’ve busied themselves at home, DBSK has still managed to maintain healthy streaming in the Land of the Rising Sun and their popularity has been justified by their invitation to perform on New Year’s Eve in Tokyo. The Dong Bang boys’ hard work has evidently paid off with recent confirmation that they’re performing on Japan’s 59th Kohaku stage, to usher in the new year.
This prestigious platform is set to catapult the boys into the J-pop stratosphere, if they’re not already there. Ok… kidding. Exaggerations aside, the internationally known NHK-broadcast program, understood to be nit-picky with choice of performers (a.k.a only the elite of the elites in J-pop) is sure to etch these boys in history. The four-hour program will split artists into two teams – White (for boys) and Red (for girls) – who go against each other in a ‘mini’ showdown of sorts. The countdown program which ends slightly before midnight, will also showcase traditional Japanese and contemporary singers.
Along with DBSK, some of the other first-timers are GIRL NEXT DOOR (Red), Perfume (Red), kimaguren/キマグレン (White) and Mr. Children (White). DBSK have also been rumored to be performing “千年恋歌 (Eternal Love Song)”.
On a side note, the White team’s been winning the past three Kohaku battles. With DBSK on board, who do you think is going to be rejoicing at 2008’s end?

The aggregate album sales of DBSK’s MIROTIC has already amounted to 307,974 whilst Big Bang’s album Stand Up second placer garnered 143,028.

DBSK / TVXQ / Tohoshinki fans are going nuts over a fanvid that was posted on DNBN. The fanvid was a message talking about the relationship between DBSK / TVXQ and their fans, the Cassiopeia.
The video portrayed how the Cassiopeia were extremely worried that they were losing DBSK to foreign lands, when it was really DBSK that was worried that they will be losing the Cassiopeia. Many fans cried over this heart warming video.

UNIT GROUPS SOLOS??? NO!!!

Reason is DBSK’s stubborness.
Many idols currently are busy doing solo work as well as unit groups, but DBSK has never publicly done solo works.
Unit performances can definitely help the group to gain more popularity among various categories in the entertainment industry, but this can also bring negative effect to the groups. Also the image of solo work can get in way with the image of the members in groups as a whole too.
SM ENTERTAINMENT HAD said ” DBSK will not be doing any SOLO work in the future or neither do we have any plans for it ” ” DBSK is a group that puts GROUP AND TEAM first. “

DBSK MAKES HISTORY

Currently the ones shining Korea and asia is Dbsk. Dbsk’s 4th album Mirotic has taken over the number one spot in Korea, Japan, Thailand and etc. Last October DBSK took 1st place in weekly Oricon chart and had highest album sales for foreign artists in Thailand.
Dbsk on the 15th in “2008 Mnet Km Music Festival” had won ALBUM of the year, the highest Daesang as well as took over the BIG5 awards even with the long out of country activites, without a shake, and without a doubt. They have one again took over the title of Korea’s Best Idol Group and have proven this so.
Especially on the 20th in the Hanteo Charts, DBSK 4th album had hit 300,000 album sales. The SM.ENT company had announced however they had reached 360,000 currently. ( HANTEO charts update is slower)
Even with the current state of digital sales being over album sales, DBSK being able to sell over 300,000 album is truely amazing and meaningful. Even though this year has been the best year with the artists/idols passing 100,000 album selling were Kim Dong-Yul, Big bang, Brown Eyes, Seo Taiji and etc. Although They have all passed record sales of 100,000 , the amount of sales DBSK has sold has surpassed even this.
In reality, the image of idol group is not that of an artist, but just singers with visual looks. Because of this Idol groups music are considered not sophisticated enough among korean music fans.
However this is not the case for DBSK. DBSK starting with their debut in 2004, and all of their 4 albums sales had been around 300,000 .

DBSK BREAKS ‘ IDOL – COLORING SINGERS’ IMAGE. (coloring – great on the outside..not much going on in reality)
Korean music critic Mr. Kim said that DBSK has the most loyal fans among any idol groups and this is why they were able to accomplish this even during the hard hit time when album sales were worst for singers in 2004.
Kim said ” DBSK’s fans, instead of going with the new digital sales, stay with purchasing ALBums very strictly. and through this they believe and know that in order to support their favorate artist and to show their respect, by purchasing album is the best way to support them”
By buying Albums among korean fans and music lovers shows that they really appreciate and agree that the quality of the music is in high standards.
Kim said ” Big bang and Wonder Girls debuted around time when digital sales were normal and DBSK had debuted around tim when album sales were still popular. so the fans know, are used to, and understand more how important purchasing albums are and they stick with the tradition”
And DBSK does not just have fans in the 10’s but also all throughout the 30s. Because they have a wide arrange of fans, it helps the albums to be sold more. Especially the image of more mature and manly DBSk has appealed to fans of 20s as well.

WHY DBSK POPULAR IN ASIA

DBSK are able to gain popularity not just in korea because they are a group with everything. Image, vocals, and dance skills. This is a rare case. Starting from their debut, DBSK has always shown the most powerful stage performances with lives. Starting 3 years ago, DBSK had been doing small concerts in Japan to get used to stepping into areas of unfamiliarity. Their live performances are the best. Their tall bodies and idol facial images is what DBSK adds to their talents.
Music critic Im Jin Mo has said ” in Dbsk’s case, their image and performance as well as music has nothing for the critics to pick on, we can’t really find a bad point about them to bash about. Especially with this 4th album. it helped DBSK and people to realize how much DBSk appeals to fans all over Korea and Asia.”
